I really enjoy cooking but finding the time to do so is often hard, so this was a great excuse to tear myself away from my drawing board.
I set the table with fresh flowers, selected some delicious dishes and made sure the fridge was stocked full of pink wine. My friend bought over her cute Freda Karlo apron for me to wear, so I looked the part and felt like the hostess with the mostess.
The menu was strictly gluten free (obvs) but I also had the added challenge of making it vegan friendly. I defy anyone that says gluten free/ vegan dishes are boring because my menu was super tasty!
We started the night with polenta, mushrooms and caramelised onion bites … simple and delicious.
I love drawing food, almost as much as I love eating it, you can check out my food illustrations via my online shop. In honour of my ‘Tree or Broccoli’ print, for mains I cooked Creamy Mac n Greens, a vegan/ gluten free take on the classic mac n cheese dish - I turned to my trusty Bosh cookbook for this recipe.
We finished the night off with a bit of a showstopper dessert, a homemade Avocado & Dark Chocolate Pleesecake. If you have not heard of Pleesecakes take a look at their instagram, they specialise in non-bake cakes that not only taste epic but they look amazing too.
Back in March I attended ‘A Night with Dolly Alderton and Sara Tasker' and I was introduced to Mirabeau rose wine, I have been hooked ever since, so I stocked the fridge and it flowed throughout the night. We ended, as we always do, with a cheeky espresso martini, in my eyes the perfect nightcap.
We stayed around the table for hours, so long that Margot put herself to bed, discussing dogs, jobs and men.
It was the perfect pick-me up evening and I am already looking forward to the next time.
